When it comes to digital marketing the process is not one of just passive interaction with a customer but rather, if done well, it is an engaging experience. The very purpose of digital marketing is to drive acquisition and increase revenue and the best way to do that is to engage in a relationship with the customer and provide them with a satisfying experience. The goal is to provide them with an ad that will leave them feeling understood and closer to your business. If the customer feels connected to your business they will develop a sense of loyalty and trust with your business. This leads to the second main point of digital marketing, driving engagement. Once you have the customer engaged, it is your job to foster and grow that relationship with the customer to encourage a further relationship. Finally, the whole purpose of building a relationship with the customer is to reduce churn. Churn is the process by which customers switch business with brands and companies. The purpose of the relationship is to reduce the number of times customers switch brands. The deeper and closer a relationship you have with a customer the less likely they are to up and leave your company. If digital marketing is done right it can provide a long-term, lasting relationship with a customer that benefits both parties.
